Refurbished Minic Motorway Track
Some things to consider when buying track to run your Minic Motorway vehicles on.
Production of the original system stopped in about 1973 - over 30 years ago.
The insulation strip which seperates the two brass conductors that carry the power to the car pickups was made from organic rubber. After 30 years or more most of the track which you see for sale today, has been kept in lofts, garages, sheds etc in less than ideal storage conditions. Some of the lots I have bought have still had the soot from a leaking chimney stack on them. The picture above illustrates two pieces of track from the same lot - you don't need to ask which is before or after - note how narrow the slots have become on the before. This is caused by the original rubber shrinking as it deteriorates.
In the shop you will see Mint Track which was kept in ideal storage conditions, the rubber did not survive, that is why I always replace it, as is the case on 100% of the track I sell. 90% of all track, where ever it comes from, needs new rubber.
The silicon strip is a genuine replacement specifically made for the purpose. The condition of the track is better than new - the silicon won't deteriorate.
There are two categories of track in the shop - Mint Unused and Refurbished. Mint Unused - This track is brand new - or it was 30 years ago. The organic rubber strip has been removed and replaced by Silicon Rubber. Refurbished - This track has been used. Only pieces in excellent condition are selected for refurbishment. The track is first cleaned. The brass conductors have been chemically cleaned for superior electrical conductivity and replaced with along with the Silicon Rubber strip. The road surface of these pieces may have minor abrasions.
Many people spend lots of money on vehicles and very little on poor quality track and expect the vehicles to run smoothly - they don't. You don't want to wreck that expensive car or lorry do you? Both types of track Mint or Refurbished will ensure super smooth running of your vehicles for years to come.
How many of you have pieces of track which you don't want, are in not too good condition or are just simply surplus. Why not send me a list together with their condition and I will give you a quote for it. You can the use the amount as a credit to buy items you do want from the shop. I am always in need of more items to refurbish.
Postage - It is very difficult to generalise where track is concerned. I normally send track in jiffy bags which cost around 80p. The postage varies between about 30p to 45p for each piece thereafter. If you email me with you list I can tell exactly what it will cost.(If you order 2 off Quarter Straights - they will be less than 2 off Double Straights). International buyers are quoted at Air Mail Small Packet rate.
Throughout the shop and my auctions you will note I always quote the condition of all the items I sell using the following categories
Mint unused - The item is in perfect condition - I am sure of it's provenence and know it is unused. Mint - The item is in perfect condition. Near Mint - The item is in perfect condition marred only by minor imperfections. Excellent Used - I know it's been used but only the items in very good condition are sold. If any items fall into the two categories above and I'm not sure in any way then they are demoted to this group.
All track which are sold in the shop or at auction is complete, there are no bits missing or hidden in the murk of poor photographs and all pieces should be considered complete, whether you're buying new or refurbished. Items are always described carefully and consistently in order to give confidence - read my feedback from past buyers, many who have made repeat purchases. My guarantee to refund any item not as described stands or falls on accurate descriptions.
