General Interest

Summer Garden Buildings was established in 1981. We have been members of the Glass and Glazing Federation since 1990, members of the Conservatory Association since it was founded, a FENSA registered company since FENSA was launched and a TrustMark registered firm since this government initiative was launched in January 2006.

The GGF is the recognized leading authority in the UK glass and glazing industry. GGF members work across the industry from emergency glazing, applied film, conservatories, windows, doors, fire resistant glazing, glazing components, flat glass, curtain walling, mirrors, toughened glass, curved glass, extrusions, hardware, glass merchanting, insulated glass and laminated glass.

GGF member companies are vetted before joining to ensure quality of service. This vetting process includes making a site visit to the company's premises, checking three years of their accounts and taking up references. Members are bound to comply with the government approved GGF Code of Good Practice. Members are bound to comply with British Standards and the Technical Standards laid out in the Federation's Glazing Manual. The GGF also provides a free conciliation service, should a customer and a member company not see eye to eye over work carried out. In the rare cases that this does not work, the GGF has an independent arbitration scheme run by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Deposits placed with GGF Members are protected by an indemnity scheme, backed by CGNU, which safeguards deposits up to £3,000 or 25% of the contract price, whichever is lower (deposit protection applies to glass and glazing products only including conservatory orders but not garden buildings). The Glass and Glazing Federation can be contacted at:

Glass and Glazing Federation 44-48 Borough High Street London SE1 1XB Telephone: 0870 042 4255 Fax: 0870 042 4266 Website: www.ggf.org.uk

Summer Garden Buildings has been a member of the Conservatory Association since it was founded. The Conservatory Association is a specialist division within the Glass and Glazing Federation.

Summer Garden Buildings has been a FENSA registered company since FENSA was created in April 2002. Our FENSA registration number is 18710. FENSA stands for the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme. It has been set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), with Government approval, in response to the new Building Regulations for England and Wales. From 1 April 2002 all replacement glazing in dwellings comes within the scope of the Building Regulations.

Anyone who installs replacement windows or doors must comply with improved thermal performance standards. When having their windows and doors replaced homeowners must ensure that they get a certificate form Local Authority Building Control or have the work completed by a FENSA Registered Company. One of the main reasons for this change to the Building Regulations is the need to reduce energy loss. FENSA can be contacted at:

FENSA 44-48 Borough High Street London SE1 1XB Telephone: 0870 042 4255 Fax: 0870 042 4266 Website: www.fensa.org.uk

Summer Garden Buildings has been a TrustMark registered firm since the scheme was launched in January 2006. TrustMark is a Government initiative to help people find reputable firms to do improvement work in the home and garden. TrustMark is based around a set of Government endorsed standards and only registered firms can display the TrustMark logo.

Our technical competence, our trading record and our creditworthiness have been checked. We have signed up to a code of practice that includes mandatory insurance, good health and safety practices and proper dealing with customers. Our quality of work, our trading practices and our customer satisfaction are checked and monitored. We are committed to making our customers aware of any building regulations issues. In addition, our customers have the option to buy a warranty covering the possibility of us going out of business and access to a dispute resolution scheme operated by the Glass and Glazing Federation.
