Additional Handsets Adding Additional Handsets to your existing Home Phone. Additional handsets can be added to most cordless phones by simply plugging them in to a convenient power supply, without the need for extra phone sockets or wiring. You can add up to two handsets to a standard cordless phone. Digital cordless phones enable you to include between four and six additional handsets to one base station. You don't have to keep to the same brand, as most digital phones let you mix and match handsets to suit your needs so long as they are GAP compatible.

Answering Machine Interface    Allows an answering machine to be connected to your fax machine.
Answer-only facility    Answering machine can be set to play an outgoing message only and not allow a caller to leave a message.

Auto-talk    Automatically connects the line when picking up the handset from the base.

Automatic Answer Facility    Allows user to receive incoming faxes automatically.

Automatic Redial    Redials the number if the receiving fax machine is engaged or does not answer.

Backlit Display    The product's LCD is illuminated for ease of use in dark areas.

Base Station Listening    Allows users to listen to calls via the phones base station.

Base Station Range Extension    Extends the range of a DECT base station an additional 50 metres indoors and 300 metres outdoors (in ideal conditions).

Bluetooth Technology    Bluetooth refers to a short-range radio technology aimed at simplifying communications between devices. Bluetooth technology was ideally designed to replace the plethora of cables that connect our fixed and mobile devices. With Bluetooth technology these devices can communicate without wire over an air interface using radio waves to pass information back and forth between devices.

Broadband    Broadband is a new technology replacing narrowband or dial up Internet services across the UK. It is commonly used to represent data speeds of over 500kbit/s through your phone line and is often referred to as 'high speed Internet access'. BT's leading Broadband technology is Digital Subscriber Line (DSL, also known as ADSL). With it you can get fast downloads from the Internet at speeds between 512kbit/s and 2Mbit/s.
Call Alert Tone    A ringing tone to alert that another radio user wants to communicate with you.

Call Barring    Allows a user to prevent certain numbers from being dialled.

Call Button    Used to access the calls list.

Call Counter    Displays the number of calls received since the last viewing of the calls list.

Call Director    Allows user to direct calls to a specific extension or handset.

Call Divert    Allows user to divert calls to alternative extension/phone number/voice mail service when unanswered.
Call Feature    Allows user to divert calls from a door intercom to an alternative number (e.g. mobile number).

Call Forwarding    Allows user to forward calls to alternative extensions or handsets.

Call Hold    Allows a call to be muted or the caller to hear hold music.

Call Indicator Icon    Alerts user that new calls have been received.

Call Indicator Light    Flashes when the phone is ringing.

Call Intercept    Allows a user to answer incoming calls from any extension on the same phone line, even if the answering machine has started to answer the call.

Call List    When a caller display service is employed, this feature logs and stores incoming calls to be recalled at the touch of a button.

Call Logs    Allows a record to be made of calls initiated during a business development programme to avoid duplication and monitor call success rates.
Call Logs (2)    Allows a record of all calls made or received to be downloaded to a PC or printer.

Call My Bill    Allows you to access details of your last phone bill at the touch of a button. (You will need to have your account number ready for reference).

Call Pick-up    Allows an incoming call to a specific handset or extension to be answered from another handset.

Call Screening    Allows user to identify an incoming caller before answering the call.

Call Sign    Provides a user with two telephone numbers in order to differentiate between callers. (This does not provide a completely separate line).

Call Timer    Monitors the duration of a call, beginning from the time the line is engaged.

Call Transfer    Allows a call to be transferred from one handset or extension to another.

Call Waiting    A beep occurs while a phone is engaged alerting the user to an incoming call. Users can choose whether to switch between callers or ignore the incoming call. On some phones, when used with Caller Display, the incoming caller's number will be displayed to allow the user to screen the call.


Caller Display    When used with a Caller Display service, this feature allows you to see who is calling you if you have their name or number stored in your phone directory. You need a NAME & NUMBER directory to see the name of the person who is calling. If you only have a NUMBER directory you will only see the number of the person calling.
You will need to subscribe to the BT Caller Display Service for the caller display function on your phone to be activated. The Caller Display Service is available FREE when you sign up to BT's FREE BT Privacy At Home service. It helps you take control of incoming calls with FREE BT Caller Display and also helps you reduce unwanted sales calls with Telephone Preference Service

Conference Calling    Allows you to hold a three way call with up to two external callers. (A quarterly fee may be payable).


Conference Calling Button    Allows user to conference a third party into a conversation at the touch of a button (when used in conjunction with BTs Three Way Calling service).

Confidential Transmission    Allows you to send a fax to a password protected fax machine (on the receiving side of the call).

Connection to the Broadband Internet    Creates a wired connection between a computer (PC or MAC) and the Broadband Internet.

Contrast Control    Allows user to adjust the contrast on the LCD.

Control Panel    Monitors accessories and reports battery low or no response messages.

DECT    Digitally Enhanced Cordless Technology (DECT), also known as digital cordless. Provides enhanced call clarity for clear communication.

Digital Sound    Digital sound quality lets you hear every breath, gurgle, snuffle or cry with complete clarity. With 120 channels auto-select you can also rest assured that it will be your baby you hear, not your neighbour's, unlike analogue baby monitors.

Earpiece Volume Control    Enables you to adjust the volume of your call to a comfortable level.

GAP    GAP (Generic Access Profile) is a common interface which allows phones to talk to base stations. In theory, any GAP-compatible phone can be used with any other GAP phone. Some features such as shared phonebooks, Intercom, Call transfer and Caller ID may not work, however you will be able to make and receive calls with out a problem. It is always wise to use the same manufacture when choosing a GAP phone to connect to your existing system but not necessary.
You can add up to 5 additional handsets to your existing GAP compatible base station without requiring any additional phone sockets. Most of our digital phones are available as singles, twins, trios or quads so that you can have a phone in every room of the house. When sold together, e.g. a quad (contains 4 phones); they are already set-up to work from one telephone socket. If you purchase an additional (GAP compatible) handset, there is a short and simple process, outlined in the product user guide (included with your phone), to link your new handset to your existing telephone system.

Handset Priority    Allows user to prioritise which handset will ring when an incoming call is received.

Hands-free Dialling    Allows user to dial without lifting the handset.

Hands-free Operation    Allows user to hold a telephone conversation without lifting the handset.

Hands-free Volume Control    Allows the adjustment of the inbuilt loudspeaker.

Headset Port    Allows user to fit a compatible headset to the unit to enable handsfree working (on a corded device) or user mobility (on a cordless device).

Hearing Aid Compatible    Allows users with hearing aids with a 'T' switch to hear their callers more clearly.

Illuminated Keypad    The handset keypad is illuminated at the touch of any button for ease of use when in dark areas.


Incoming Message Audible Alert    Allows you to choose a melody/ discreet tone/morse beep to announce a new text message.

Infra Red Facility    Allows user to dial a handsfree call by pointing the organiser at the cradle from up to three metres away.

Intercom    Allows a two-way conversation between the handset & base station.

Internal Calling    Allows users to hold a conversation between handsets, even if other handsets in the system are on an external call.

Internal Call Waiting    Indicates an incoming external call during an internal conversation.

Internal/External Ringing    Differentiated ring tones to distinguish between internal and external calls.

Keypad Lock    Allows user to lock the keypad to prevent buttons being pushed accidentally.

Large backlight LCD    Shows information on station name, album & track information (if available).

Last Number Re-dial    Stores the most recently dialled numbers to be accessed again at the touch of a button.


LCD Display    Displays dialled numbers, and all other visible information.

Line in Use Indicator    Tells the user that the line is in use.

Link Alert    Confidence that an alarm will sound if link is broken for any reason.

Long Battery Life    The battery in the In Touch Pendant will last for up to four years, based on two presses per day. An indicator will appear when the battery has only one year of life remaining. It is recommended that the user replace the pendant when this indicator appears.

Loudspeaker Volume Control    Allows the adjustment of the inbuilt loudspeaker.

Mains Powered    Requires mains power.

Mains operated or battery powered    Requires 8xC size alkaline batteries not provided.

Mbps    Stands for megabits per second and is a measure of the speed at which data is transmitted over a network.

Message Capacity Alert    Alerts user when recording capacity has been reached.

Outgoing Message Facility    Messages are pre-recorded on the answering machine (these can be overwritten with your own outgoing messages).

Output Resolution    The maximum number of dots per inch (dpi) on the printer or transmission output.

Paging Facility    Allows the user to page the handset from the base station.

Parental Control    Limits Internet access on your children's PCs.

Pause    Commonly needed for switchboards where a delay is required for switching purposes, this feature inserts a pause into a telephone number during dialling to ensure switch compatibility.

Polyphonic Ringtones    Allows more than one note to be played at once offering a greater sound experience when your phones rings.


Portable    Portable. Power Adaptor Used to connect the product to the mains electric supply.


Power Indicator    Allows user to see when the unit is switched on.


Power Indicator Light    Light indicates when the unit is switched on.


Pre-dialling Facility    Allows user to dial a number and check to ensure it is correct before pressing the dial button to connect the call.

Recall    Function to be used for certain services, such as transferring calls, using BT Select Services and when using the product on a switchboard.

Redial Button    Allows one touch access to redial the last number that you dialled.

Remote Answering Machine Access    Ability to access the system virtually, from a remote location and perform various functions including changing the outgoing message, message playback/delete, switching the machine on or off, etc.

Remote Answering Machine Activation    Allows user to switch the answering machine on or off while accessing the machine remotely.


Remote Call Answering    Allows user to answer and hang up incoming calls simply by pressing the pendant button.
Remote Change of Announcement    Allows you to change your outgoing answering machine message from another telephone.


Remote Programming    Allows an external party, such as the careline service provider, to remotely programme the memories and emergency routine on the In Touch telephone package.

Repeat Dial    Allows user to dial a number repeatedly without having to press the Redial button.

Ringer Volume Control    Enables you to adjust the volume of the telephone ringer to a comfortable level, including on or off.

Secrecy    Allows caller to be placed "on hold," to enable conversation without the caller hearing.

SIM Card Reader    Allows user to download the phone directory from a mobile SIM card to the fixed line phone, enabling the convenience of the same directory no matter which phone is used.

SMS Button    Dedicated SMS button appears on the handset.

SMS Indicator    Light flashes when new text messages are received.

SMS Memory Storage    Text messages can be stored in the memory.

Speed Dial Number Memory    Store and dial numbers at the touch of one or two buttons.

Standby    The number of hours the handset can be removed from the base unit before recharging is required.

Talk Back    Parents can talk to their baby via the parent unit.

Talk Time    The number of hours the handset can be used in talk mode before recharging is required.

Talking Caller ID    Announces the number of the caller or the name, if stored in the memory.

Text Message Indicator    Flashing light, display icon and audible signal indicate when a new text message has been received.

Text Messaging    Also known as SMS messaging, this feature allows user to send and receive short text messages over the fixed line telephone network.
