Did you know that the Greek word for amber is "elektron"?

To check whether the amber you want to buy is genuine, rub the piece (quite vigorously!) against some wool or other natural material. This will cause static electricity to build up in genuine amber.

Then immediately check it against a piece of thin tissue - if it doesn't cling - it's not amber!
