2 PACK CANDY PAINTS
Q. What do I thin the paint with to be able to spray?
A. 2K paints require mixing with a 2K hardener and 2K thinner at a ratio of 2:1 + 10% (for every 1 litre paint you will require ½ litre of hardener and 150ml of thinners)
Q. What colour should the candy be sprayed over?
A. They can be applied over any colour, but the groundcoat colour will change the effect of the candy paint. As a rule, a bright silver tends to be the standard colour people use.
Q. How many coats do I need to apply?
A. This can vary depending on the colour, but 4 – 5 coats is normally sufficient.
Q. How much will I need to re-paint my car?
A. This will vary on the size of car and how much of the vehicle is being sprayed. On an average 3 door hatchback (Corsa, Clio size) including door shuts you would need approximately 4 - 5 litres of candy paint.
Q. What is the difference with 2K and 2 pack paints?
A. They are both the same, just have different names.
Q. What is the difference with hardener and activator?
A. They are both the same product, just given different names by various manufacturers.
Q. Do I need to flat down the paint in between coats?
A. 2K candy paints do not require any flatting down between coats.
Q. Do I need to apply a clear lacquer over the candy colour?
A. None of our 2K candy colours require a clear lacquer applying over the top, but adding a clear coat over the candy will add some depth of shine and protect the candy coat when polishing the car.
Q. Do I need special breathing equipment to use 2 pack?
A. The hardener used in 2 pack paints contains isocyanates (cyanide) which is harmful. A mask capable of filtering the harmful vapours should always be used when spraying with 2 pack.
Q. Can metal flakes be mixed in with the 2K candy paint?
A. Yes, they can. But to get the best results from metal flakes they should be applied in a coat of clear lacquer (ideally over a basecoat paint) before applying the candy colour.
