We have a excellent little Polishing machine that can be used with great success for polishing all your precious items, but these mops and compounds will also work well using and electric drill, which would be better clamped to a bench with a good solid vice, this will leave both hands free to manipulate the item to the best advantage for polishing.
Mops & Felts:
Use very soft swansdown mops these are made from the softest white cotton material layers all held together with a leather washer, they come in several widths.
If using a stitched cotton mop be sure also it is made from very soft cotton, these are several layers of cotton which are stitched together in a spiral, it makes a stiffer polishing wheel.
Felts both mounted and unmounted are ideal for all precious metals, although these are not as durable as the cotton mops they are ideal for small areas and internal diameters.
Compound:
We have two compounds which work very well on all precious metals, A medium grade tripolea and jewellers rouge, these are fine abrasive compounds mixed with wax base and will bring back a super finish to Gold & Silver when used with the above mops or felts.
Jewellery Polishing Instructions
Attach arbours to machine securely
-
Screw Mop or felt onto arbour.
-
Make sure machine is switched off before plugging into the mains.
-
Run the machine and apply the compound to the mop for a few seconds to coat it thoroughly coat it.
-
As the compound is wax based the heat generated helps to cover the mop.
-
With the machine running apply the item to be polished with a medium to hard pressure, for best results it is recommended that you constantly vary the polishing directions for an even finish, Polish across the scratches rather than along them.
-
If required apply more compound to the mop BUT don't apply too mach, if black grease marks appear on your work then they can be removed using some Vienna Lime on a dry cloth, The key here is little and often.
-
Please remember to follow the safety instructions with your machine.
-
Wear protective clothing, Gloves and safety glasses.
