Note : Still images for scrutiny and comparison are shown after the slideshow...   SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON...SEE FOR YOURSELF... Left hand side: Natural Sunlight & Kitchen Flourescent light vs Right hand side: 15w LED Grow Lights     Both trays both had exactly 25g of mustard cress and 5g white cress seeds as the test crop.. Why cress seeds?  They are fast growing and can give an almost "immediate" objective overview of the benefits growing under LED Grow Lights...   Both trays had the same growing area and seeds were distributed as evenly as possible by hand.   The normal "time to grow" for cress is 8 days from seed...   Pictures were taken at daily intervals until cropping..    RESULTS AND CONCLUSION   LED Cress was ready to crop @ 6 days - 2 full days ahead of the "kitchen" light group - and when cropped yielded 22% more  product - or 50g...   Cost of extra electricity to produce that 50g (and allow cropping 2 days ahead of schedule) was approx 7.5p for the duration of the experiment...     Still Images:   Preparation...   Kitchen Grow   1st March - germination plainly evident... 2nd March - almost all seeds have germinated - little "real" growth...   3rd March - "proper" plant growth seen emerging from most seeds...   4th March - uneven plant growth but all seeds germinated...   5th March - canopy just forming whilst LED is almost ready to crop... 6th March - waiting for height catchup 7th March - waiting for height catchup   8th March - Cropped when same height as LED - canopy somewhat uneven...   Yield: 175g            LED Grow 1st March - uniform germination     2nd March - pronounced root growth (the fluffy white parts are tiny tiny roots the plants are putting out)     3rd March - all  seeds germinated and growing well...    4th March - Majority of height has been uniformly reached...   5th March - Almost ready for cropping - uniform growth... 6th March - Full - Even - Lush - Green - Ready For Cropping...            Yearly yield comparison based on above results   Kitchen   365 days per year. 8 days per crop total crops per year = 365 divided by 8 = 47 crops @ (assumed) similar level of yield per crop  -175g each.   Total yield over one year kitchen growing = 8.225kg Cress LED Grow Light     365 days per year 6 days per crop total crops per year = 365 divided by 6 = 61 crops @ (assumed) similar levels of yield - 225g per crop.   Total yield over one year LED Growing = 13.725kg Cress   Difference in yield = 5.5kg extra   Increase over natural sunlight of 67% more food...       Return to our Resource Section...
