We have shipped hundreds of tropical fish to people all over the country, with greater than 99% of these fish arriving in excellent condition. We have been breeding Guppies for over 20 years, as an advanced hobby (some would say an obsession). That's some years of intense experience maintaining lots of aquariums at a time. I raised my first guppies in 1971.

Breeding superior Guppies is hard work, but it's fun, which is why we will be doing this for many years to come. Guppy Essentials is dedicated to suppling the best fish and quality fish Foods we possibly can.  

Our Fish Foods

Most of our fish foods are made in the U.S. For obvious reasons, we refuse to buy fish foods made in China. Beware, many companies offering cheap food, are selling fish food made in China. And yes, there have been fish food recalls for toxic substances, like melamine,  found in them. 

There is a huge difference in the quality of fish foods on the market today. We've been feeding the fish foods we sell to our own fish every day for some years and they have never failed us. In fact, they have proven capable of growing superior fish.

Fresh! The most important thing with any fish food is freshness. Guppy Essentials Fish Foods are always the freshest available. We turn our inventory over every few weeks, and our fish foods are made fresh to our specifications on the day we order them. You will not get this degree of freshness anywhere else.  We repeat - this is the most important factor in any prepared fish food you will buy - by far!

The next most important aspect is the packaging of fish food. Our Wholesaler in the U.S.A. use special bags, that are made from special materials,  creating an effective barrier against damaging moisture and oxygen, so it is always fresh when we receive it. We make it our main objective when feeding our fish, to only use the freshest of foods. You should too.

Don't be fooled into thinking a food is good just because fish readily eat it. Children prefer candy over broccoli, but it doesn't mean that candy is better for them. A taste preference can easily be acquired through hunger. Getting them to prefer foods that are also very good for them, is the trick. Even though it's not always needed, our way of getting them to develop a taste for a new food, works. It is described below.

Fish won't eat their new food?  When switching to a new fish food, we highly recommend getting the fish very hungry. Often times, fish become accustomed to a particular fish food and will not eat another, no matter how good it is for them. When introducing a new food, we usually don't feed the fish for 24-48 hours, depending on the size of the fish, and then offer only one bite per fish. Do this every few hours for the next day or two. Using this method, you can quickly get most fish to eat a new food like ravenous piranha within a day or two. In fact, we have to be careful feeding, because they often jump out of the tank in their feeding frenzy.
