Rodrigo Otazu was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Whilst travelling the world as a model for Calvin Klein, he was so inspired by the city of Sydney, Australia, that he created his first necklace with a handful of pearls. It was an instant success and the piece was featured in the Australian Vogue.

Otazu takes his inspiration from the creative genius of Ungaro, Ozbek and Lacroix and, only a short time after opening his first studio in Amsterdam, he was commissioned by the designers, Mart Visser and Frans Molenaar. Later Rifat Ozbek himself commissioned Otazu to design couture pieces for his show.

His collections became an instant success with both buyers and press. The glamour and dramatic appeal of Otazu's designs have attracted huge support from celebrities including Kelis, Lauren Hill, Aretha Franklin, Destiny's Child, Britney Spears and Lil' Kim.

Rapidly expanding the Otazu emporium, Rodrigo created the 'prêt à porter' range using his unique designs, which became market leaders in The Netherlands instantly.

Prestigious companies are also charmed by the power of Rodrigo's talent. Gassan Diamonds, the well-known Diamond house in Amsterdam, approached Otazu to join forces; the combination of beautiful diamonds and the creative power of Otazu resulted in impressive and highly desirable pieces. As a highlight Rodrigo created a diamond especially for Kylie Minogue.

The fashion industry is constantly yearning for typical Rodrigo’s designs. The London catwalks are also no strangers to Otazu. During London Fashion Week Autumn/Winters '04, the Clements Ribeiro show featured a sparkling array of Otazu fashionable jewellery. Rodrigo has also created exclusive pieces for the esteemed designer Christian Lacroix's 'Couture' line. The cooperation has been so successful, that Christian Lacroix now commissions Rodrigo to illuminate the catwalks in Paris.
