Not able to find the specific hairpieces that you want? Wrong colour, wrong materials, or wrong thickness?
I have such a wide range of materials that it's never possible to make hairpieces in all the beautiful possible combinations at any one time. I am always happy to undertake custom orders for hair falls and crowns, made to your own requirements!
HAIR FALLS are pairs of temporary hair extensions, designed to be worn by tying them to bunches of your own hair and pinning them in place. They can be made in any length and colour you want (up to a maximum of about 42").
PONY FALLS are single falls, thicker than an individual Hair Fall, designed to be worn around a pony-tail.
FALLS CROWNS consist of short pieces of the chosen material(s) mounted on a rigid hairband. This is worn in front of your falls, and disguises where the falls attach to your hair. It also gives height, extra decoration, covers the front of the scalp and frames the face, blending in the falls. The pictures below show Falls Crowns - the middle picture shows how well a Crown blends in with a set of falls in the same shades.

STANDARD MATERIALS USED IN HAIR FALLS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

·
Elysee Star synthetic dreads: these are pre-made, thin, double-ended dreads, about 46" long (so when folded in half they make two 23" dreads). They come in a wide range of natural and bright colours, and some twisted/candy-cane combinations. (I'll be putting up a link to a colour-chart when I get a chance to create one! )
· Hand-made dreads: these are not as smooth as the pre-made dreads, but can come in any combination of colours that you choose, and can be made at any length. Please note that hand-made dreads aren't quite as durable as the Elysee Star ones. Candycane hand-made dreads tend to keep their shape a bit better than the backcombed/twisted single-colour ones, in my experience.
· Loose synthetic hair: this comes in several different textures - silky or 'yaky' hair is best for loose falls as it tangles and mats less than kanekalon. However, all loose hair falls tend to lose their look quickly as they tangle and knot very easily. Darkenrose recommends loose synthetic hair as an accent rather than as a whole hair fall.
· Colinette Point Five yarn: this is a really lovely, hand-dyed, 'dready'-type yarn which varies in thickness and colour along its length. It comes in a wide range of colours (see http://www.colinette.com/ ). One Point Zero yarn is a thinner version of the same yarn. I sometimes use other ranges of Colinette yarn in falls, to provide accents - particularly the Giotto, Tagliatelle and Mercury ranges.
-
Hand-dyed slub yarn: recently I've been hand-dyeing my own yarns rather than using the Colinette colours. Slub yarn is the same type as colinette Point Five or One Point Zero, but hand-dyeing has the added advantage that I can create any shade required, or combination of shades etc. I've found that I can obtain much more intense shades in certain colours, eg purple, than are available from Colinette, or get combinations (eg red/deep red/black mix) that simply aren't otherwise available. I use acid dyes, which are colourfast.

· Rowan Biggy Print yarn: this is a thick, twisted wool yarn that gives a braided effect. I use it to give a change of body and texture to falls. It hasn't got a very wide colour-range, so tends to provide extra black in my falls. PLEASE NOTE: recently, Rowan Biggy Print has been impossible to find in black. I'll be using it again as soon as I can get hold of some ...
· Micro-braids: these are fine, 'corn-row' thickness synthetic braids that come in lengths of about 40". They are available in natural colours and burgundy.
· Wool Roving: Roving is a thick, lightly spun wool that provides great dread-thickness accents while being fantastically lightweight. It can be teased and flattened into roving strips, which typically measure about an inch across and add a great different style to your falls. I buy my roving undyed from New Zealand, and hand-dye it to my requirements. Because it's so thick when I get it in thi way, I can use it to provide strips/accents in falls from about 3/4 inch to an inch and a half across.
· Rexlace: rexlace is thin plastic lacing that comes in a wide range of shades and is used to add accent colour and a spikier texture to falls and crowns. While it's certainly possible to make entire falls from rexlace, as it is plastic these would be very heavy and pull on your hair, so bear that in mind if you're thinking of a full head of this material. The colour chart can be found at http://www.pepperell.com/Rexlace_Color_Chart.htm .

-
Rhinestones: Small 5mm crystal rhinestones, sometimes glass, sometimes acrylic (depends on what supplier I'm using), held onto the falls with small pronged holders. The prongs of the holder are securely bent over the stone to keep it in place and should not snag on clothing, etc. Rhinestones are available in a wide variety of colours and I normally have at least a dozen colours in stock.
-
Satin Ribbon and Viscose Tape Ribbon: I put some of this in most of my falls, it gives another good texture and rich accents of colour to lie on the top of the falls. I mainly use thin (3-5mm) ribbon, but can get wider if requested.
-
Lace: This is occasionally used, depending mainly on whether I've been able to find some suitable lace at a suitable price. If lace is wanted in a particular shade, I can always get some white lace and dye it for use.
-
Cyberlox: also known by a number of names including 'tubular crin' and 'horsehair braid', this is a lovely material for hair falls. It comes in tubular lengths and in a wide range of exotic colours - neon, metallic, opalescent, striped, threaded through with metallic or opalescent threads, and in two widths. It's stretchy and springy, falls perfectly around the face when worn as hair falls, and is just to die for. I now have a regular supplier for this, but have to import from the States and am subject to minimum order requirements so if you're interested in a set of Cyberlox falls, please email me first to let me know the sorts of colours you're interested in and be prepared, if need be, for a wait if I'd have to order it in as it may be that I can't order it right away.
-
Satin Fringe yarn: I've been using this more and more as an accent in falls as more manufacturers start making it and more colours become available. Going under names such as 'Wendy Shimmer', it's a yarn like a satin ribbon that's been frayed all along one of its edges, so it's like a ribbon at one side and like a fringe at the other. It comes in a variety of colours, some solid shades and some gorgeous mixes of colours that fade in and out along its length. Pretty!!

Other Special Yarns Depending on what's in stock/what I spot when on my buying sprees - I often also use other fancy yarns. These may be fringed, sparkly, latticed, fluffy ... whatever I notice that I think may add a little 'oooh! Look!!' factor as an accent to a certain colourway of falls. These extras tend to change over time as often I simply can't find any more of a yarn I once used, or the manufacturer has discontinued it. It's another reason why a pair of falls in a certain colour bought one year may be significantly different from the same design bought a year later. I like to think of it as something that adds a 'unique' factor ...
· Other Extras: I often have all sorts of other extras to falls, such as the following:- lurex cord, rayon tape, lurex tape, holographic sequins, voile, velvet chenille yarn, other fancy yarns, etc. Other things could also be included on request, such as feathers, silk flowers, plastic tubing ... whatever you'd like.
If there's a particular style of hair falls that you'd like, please email me with your requirements and I'll let you know what I have available, give you a time-estimate for anything I don't have in stock, and let you know about prices.
Please note that I can't provide a colour chart for the hand-dyed yarns - I can literally create any colour that you'd like as I get the dyes in powder form and can mix and match any shade (and create different effects along the length of the yarn - eg transitional fades, space-dyeing etc). If there's specific types of shades that you'd like, then I recommend looking at a chart for websafe colours and letting me know the desired shades either by copy/pasting the colours, or quoting the hexcode (six-digit code) that gives that shade. A chart can be found at http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/color_codes/ .
LASTLY - but importantly - before ordering, please check the ORDER SCHEDULE page in this shop for details of my next available slot for making falls, and let me know if you have a deadline before the date given.

Most of the jewellery items I make are customisable and adjustable - in some cases, colour options are given on the listing, but if there is a particular design that you would prefer in a different colour, please email me and I'll see what I can do. Most of the actual components for my jewellery are bought in and I cannot guarantee that all parts are available in different shades, or the specific shade that you require, but I can certainly find out for you.
Length of necklaces and chokers is fully customisable, so please let me know if you need a specific size.
Certain of the lace designs can be made in different colours - often I get the lace in bulk in a pale colour and dye it to my requirements. There would be a small extra charge for the dye if I needed to dye it to a different shade, as venise lace doesn't take the same sort of dye as I use for my yarns and therefore I'd have to buy extra in. Please note - black rose lace chokers aren't available in any other colour of lace as the lace is already black when it comes to me.
If you would like a completely new design, either based on elements you've seen in my other designs or to your own specifications, please email me and we'll discuss possibilities. |
I'm happy to conduct custom sales via eBay (via pre-approved bidder list BIN) or privately, whichever you prefer.
I always enjoy making custom orders as it is more fun to make items specifically designed for someone rather than make random ones to sell at auction - so if there's something you'd like, please tell me!
Thanks
