Follow our simple measuring
guides for all types of blinds, curtains and curtain poles.
BLIND MEASURING
GUIDE
Before you start:
There are 2 ways of fitting your blind: inside or outside the window
recess.
You will need:
Pen or pencil
Paper
Metal tape measure (cloth or plastic tape measures can stretch)
We recommend you use centimetres.
FITTING
OUTSIDE THE RECESS:
1. measure the width of the area that you want your blind to cover in
centimetres - We recommend you have a 5cm overlap either side (whenever
possible)
2. measure the drop of the area that you want your blind to cover in
centimetres
We recommend the blind is fitted 5cm above the window.
You now have your width x drop size for your blind.
FITTING
INSIDE THE RECESS:
1. measure the width inside the recess wall to wall in 3 places, make a
note of the smallest measurement
2. measure the drop inside the recess lentil to sill, make a note of
the smallest measurement
You now have your width x drop size for your blind.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
Width measurements are always quoted followed by drop measurements
Eg: 120cm x 160cm is 120cm wide x 160cm drop
You may need to round up to the
nearest standard blind size as you can trim most blinds down to exact
size. (eg if your measurement is 117cm you would need to round up to a
120cm wide blind)
Roller blind width measurements
include the fittings which are at either end. The material on a roller
blind is always slightly narrower than the width measurement stated
(approximately 1.5cm either side).
Blinds can be lowered to the
required length once fitted, therefore the drop size must be a minimum
of the drop measurement, but can be longer.
If your window recess less than
7cm deep you may not be able to fit inside the recess
If your window opens inward you
may not be able to fit inside the recess as the top of the blind may
restrict your window opening
The head rail on Venetian and
roman blinds is exact, you do not have to allow for fittings.
CURTAIN POLE
MEASURING GUIDE
Before you start:
You will need:
Pen or pencil
Paper
Metal tape measure (cloth or plastic tape measures can stretch)
We recommend you use centimetres.
MEASURING:
measure the width of the window allowing an additional 20cm overlap
either side (whenever possible), however the overlap is personal choice
so can be more or less.
We recommend the pole is fitted 10cm to 15cm above the window.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
If the pole you are buying is a telescopic pole it will come in 2
parts. The 2 poles should join at the centre this allows the curtain
rings to run smoothly. The join will be covered by a centre bracket if
one is supplied.
CURTAIN MEASURING
GUIDE
Before you start:
You will need:
Pen or pencil
Paper
Metal tape measure (cloth or plastic tape measures can stretch)
We recommend you use centimetres.
MEASURING WIDTH:
Measure the pole or track width.
If your track has a centre overlap you need to measure the overlap and
add it to the track width.
This will give you the width of the curtains needed.
Eg: If your curtain pole measures 229cm you will need a 229cm wide pair
of curtains
MEASURING DROP:
Measure from the bottom of the curtain ring if you have a curtain pole,
or the top of a curtain track. If the pole or track has not been fitted
then you should allow an additional 15cm to 20cm.
Curtains can be hung:
to the floor, we recommend you allow 1cm above the floor to ensure they
do not drag
to a window sill, we recommend you allow 1cm above the sill to ensure
they do not drag
to below the window sill, we recommend 15cm to 20cm below the window
sill, if you have a radiator under your window we would recommend at
least 2cm above the radiator.
Measure in 3 places and use the
shortest measurement.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
If your track has a centre overlap you need to measure the overlap and
add it to the track width.
Measurements are for each curtain, so for a 229cm wide curtain both
curtains will be 229cm wide, however you need to allow for the
gathering of material which will reduce the curtain by upto half and
therefore will fit half the window.
