Welcome to
Classic Toys & Models'
new Home Page

I've been promising you this new page for quite some time, I know, but it's taken a Bank Holiday to actually get started on it. (Since this is August Bank Holiday, I hope it's finished before the next one)!

The old one was certainly getting pretty tired - CT&M has really evolved quite a lot since I built that one and knee-jerk modifcations have only managed to serve a very temporary purpose (i.e. kick something out because I hadn't got it any more and put something in its' place regardless of whether it fitted or not)!

I've designed this one with a modular structure, so, if I'm not happy with any part of it, I can change my spare copy of that bit and pop it in place when I think no-one's looking!

Since my first design job, after leaving college in 1971, was in exhibition design, modular construction is no stranger to me!

I came to the conclusion some time ago that the shop needed departments, too, though some of them (R/C and Slot in particular) are going to overlap when it comes to basic electrical items. I'll deal with those instances as, and when, they arise.

So, logically, each department should have its' own 'home' and then this will need dividing into its' own relevant sections (apart from a small one up here for general announcements like this). So, here goes!

SlotCars first, I think!

But just before I dive into departments, I do need to tell you that I still find your levels of feedback truly amazing. Without you, my business would never have been more than a hobby. I have some new plans afoot now. I'll let you in on them as soon as I think they are a little closer to fruition.

Meanwhile, be ready for a new department or two to pop up here in the near future!

Cars, Track and Accessories

Firstly, it's goodbye to my 'Brand New' Classic Cars. I always said there wasn't an Aladin's Cave that I could go back to and get more, and they have now all gone, so that chapter's over.

I am now planning to sell fully mechanically-refurbished second hand cars, with bodies in a presentable condition (I'm NOT going to start painting them - a really good paint job would make them too expensive and cheap one is worse than not painting them at all)! They will be equipped with Hi-Spec Braids (and lights if appropriate) right from the off, of course!

I'll be targetting the racer's market in particular, rather than the collectors, with the accent on 'as new' (or better) performance. I'd love to sell them all in concours condition, and in pristine boxes too, but they were meant to be raced!

If, I come accross any accessories or track in decent condition, then I'll put that up for sale too. 'Good' will mean you'd have to look closely to tell it from new. 'Usable' will mean exactly what it says - it will work as it should do - conduct electricity well, and not throw your cars off the track, but you wouldn't mistake it for new!

These were supposed to come flying out of the dark at you - one at a time and rather bigger!

I've no cars ready to sell just yet, so I was going to leave it scrolling through a few of my own stable, which I'd put in a little flash file for you, but I'm having teething troubles getting it onto eBay, so for the moment, you'll have to make do with some plain photos of my F1's and Saloons. Sorry!

I promise I won't be reticent about letting you know when I have some more to sell!

Next, still the Jewel in our particular Crown - Hi-Spec Braids

20mm Braids - old 'standard' slot-guide (eyelets on the ends of the motor leads plug directly into the guide)

27mm Braids - 'Easy-Fit' slot-guide (from circa 1990 onwards - modern 'Sport' guide is it's direct descendant and uses same braids)

40mm Braids - Current Drift-Cars/1980's Stock-Cars/360-degree spinners (both ends of the braid tuck in around oval or circular plate)

First, I want to say a very big 'thank you' for your response to our braids, and for your appreciative, sometimes brilliant, feedback left. Also, for the fact that you keep coming back for more!

Sadly, it's time to say goodbye to my original 4-packs. The 27mm has already gone, as eBay will no longer accept fixed-price listings with a tag of less than £0.99, and the 20mm will follow when it next comes round for renewal.

This, however does create the opportunity for me to test a new intermediate listing between the 10 and 100-packs. Watch this space!

I am considering shortening the length of my Drift-Car braid to 34 or 35 mm, as I feel that they are probably a bit longer than they need to be, but would like to know what Drift-Car users think. You can use the eBay 'contact member' boxes, or alternatively, my e-mail address is at the bottom of the graphic panel on each of my listings.

Amazingly, my braid manufacturer has held his prices on my latest order, in spite of what had happened to world copper prices, so I don't have any need to worry about price increases yet! I was expecting the worst after watching the pound fall from its' previously strong position.

Hi-Spec Headlamp Bulbs
(very durable 12-volt Grain-of-Wheat Bulbs)

Yes, it's more than nine months now since my existing supplies of Scalextric's old bulbs ran out. The little lamp I sourced to replace them has proven nearly as big a hit as our braids, considering that every car has a pair of braids, which are intended to wear by design! Not all cars even have lights.

Once you get my lights, I need to find something else to sell you (the only one I've managed to blow was the one I put 28 volts into to see how bright I really could get one)! I've given the ones in my Porsche and Sierra as rough a life as I can, without hurting my cars too much, and left another on continuous burn on a 12-volt transformer. Before you shriek "What about the Planet!" - please note that these bulbs have a current rating of just 0.06 amps!

The rest of the specification reads:

      Power: 0.72W
      Average operating life: 16,000 hrs.
      Max. light output @ 12V. = 1.9 lm. (lumens)

That should give you a clue as to why I don't expect you back for new bulbs too soon, though I do suspect that the manufacturers probably just envisage them being used in slightly more forgiving surroundings!

Pack sizes will continue as single, two-pack, six-pack and 10-pack.

These are the cornerstone on which I intend to build my new electrical department when I have sourced my other target items.

The hi-spec headlights page is now open for business.

We've now expanded our range and have 10 options covering 4 different bulb types and spanning the range from the original Escort Mk.1 with lights, from the early 70's, right up to present-day models. The purple link will take you there.

The Rumour Mill:

As I implied at the beginning, I do have a new Slot-Car project I'm working on, though it may take some time to develop for production. I'd love to tell you about it, but my time is limited and someone else might beat me to it if I let the cat out of the bag!

Latest NEWS!

I've just dug out a box of brand-new, old Schumacher 2" tyres in a lot more tread patterns and compouds than their re-release offering for the 2" wheels. I only have relatively few, of course! I'm working through them one compound at a time; I've just done the listings for the six patterns I have in RED compound which should come onstream at about 8pm this evening (06/10/08).

Blue compound. Over the last 10 days or so I have added my range of ten 2" tyre types in the BLUE compound. Greens and the old Softs (very few of those) to follow soon. (17/10/ 08)

The pics in the top margin are too small to see clearly, so click 'wheels and tyres' in the nav bar and come down and look for yourself!

I have quite a lot of spares for some other older cars and some more specialist racing parts. I've a box labelled PB Mini-Mustang/Maxima/Ace that weighs 2.5kg! I used to race the Mustang and Maxima when I first tried off-road, if you exclude the ex-shop-display, 2WD, AYK Bobcat that I entered my first cometition with. (Don't ask, I've no spares at all left for that one)!

I do have a tub of new and used spares for the french MRX car, which Parma marketed here. I'm just not sure if there's enough people with them to make these, or the PB bits for that matter, a commercially viable propositition to list on eBay.

Parts for Cecil Schumacher's CAT/Cougar range are already listed and selling. Having raced (and sometimes broken) my own, I do have a good idea of what parts will command a premium and which are likely to be slow moving, but can't always forecast accurately, as supplies of some less frequently-needed parts dried up some time ago (presumably less of these had been produced in the first place). Therefore, unless Schumacher still have the parts on their own website to tell me what the current price is, I usually try an auction first to guage the market. Some items, I only have a stock level of one, so don't hold back in the hope I'll sell it cheap afterwards. You might miss it altogether!

Other parts include assorted makes of off-road tyres, some old Modified Class motors, still in their bags, and R/C system spares for Futaba, Acoms, Sanwa, KO and Hi-Tec, possibly more, but I have too much on my plate to do it all at once.I am in the process of building them their own dedicated section which I will add to this page as soon as it's ready!

I will link some pictures to their listings, as soon as time allows!

Well, it's footnote time for now. I will now get this page posted with the content it has grown so far! As I said earlier, it's designed so that I can easily 'plug-in' new sections plus any changes I need to make.

You now have the link on this Home page to jump straight to the main hi-spec braids page and similar ones to the Headlights/Electrical and RC-Cars pages, which will come online when the pages themselves are ready.

I've tried to keep my NavBar logical, so you can hopefully use it to navigate easily to the section of listings you're looking for!

The framework for the R/C Systems parts is already designed and ready. It's just waiting for the idle photographer, the pre-occupied copywriter and the daydreaming designer to get their collective fingers out.

Unfortunately, all three of them are me!

Meanwhile, my packing department has read this over my shoulder and is laughing her head off!
