About Handmade Indian Furniture (Mango & Sheesham)
About the furniture
Our Indian mango and sheesham furniture is imported by us, directly from a factory based in Jodhpur, India. Our pieces our made entirely of solid mango & sheesham hardwood; we do not use any kind of veneer or chipboard/plywood on any part of our furniture. We have built up a good relationship with our supplier and are always in communication regarding new designs and colours that we plan to add to our range.
Although not considered rustic in a traditional sense, buyers of handmade Indian furniture should not expect machine-finished, perfect pieces with a mirror-like shine. The very nature of handmade wooden furniture is an imperfect item, cut, joined and stained by hand, giving each and every piece an individual and slightly rustic charm. Natural, hand cut and finished pieces are used exclusively, so imperfections such as small dents and nicks should be expected and are not considered faults.
We are absolutely confident in the quality of our furniture and our pictures show real examples of the item that you can expect to receive. We take our own photographs to ensure that you can see the furniture in as much detail as possible, and we make every effort to try and replicate the authentic colour of the item to avoid disappointment.
Caring for your furniture
Our mango and sheesham furniture should be treated approximately 3 times a year with good quality natural bees wax, which is available from most DIY shops. General cleaning should be carried out by buffing with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use standard furniture polishes as this can affect the original finish.
Our furniture is supplied protected and wrapped as it was when it left the factory in India. For this reason you can expect the furniture to be slightly dusty, and occasionally the polystyrene corner protection used can leave small marks. These can be easily removed by cleaning and applying bees wax. Please wipe the furniture down, and clean the underside of any legs before placing the furniture to prevent any dirt marking carpets or floors. We suggest that you clean and apply wax immediately after taking delivery to ensure good protection and prevent the furniture from excessive drying and possible cracking which may occur.
Due to the nature of hand-crafted timber, changes in humidity and temperature can swell or slightly warp the wood. This is usually not noticeable at all, but in rare circumstances side-affects such as sticky drawers and doors can occur. This usually rectifies itself after the climate returns to normal, but in some very rare cases the timber movement can be permanent. This is not considered a fault and we ask that customers accept this as a possibility when buying our hand-crafted mango and sheesham furniture. Simple adjustments such as shaving the inside of drawer apertures can be undertaken quite simply by the customer to rectify these problems, and the natural movement of the timbers will not affect the overall life or durability of the furniture at all.
Because the movement of timbers described above is not considered a fault, any returns for this reason alone will be considered as a return due to a change of mind, and not due to any fault with the furniture.
If you have any specific questions at all about our Indian furniture, please don’t hesitate to contact us; we are always happy to help.
