Welcome to Between The Trees
Thank you for taking the time to visit Between The Trees, here you will find out a little more about the collections currently available in-store as well as details of my terms and conditions and contact details.
Between The Trees launched in March 2007 with a collection of the most comfortable hammocks ever made, the hand woven cotton Mexican Hammocks. I currently stock four sizes of hammocks, Double, Queen, King and Jumbo. In 2008 I am going to experiment with a couple of different suppliers to provide different styles, colours and sizes of hammocks including the Lux, Crochet Lux and Hemp hammocks, some might be listed already, but I have a bit of a backlog going on, so keep checking back! If you want to read more about Mexican hammocks, check out my fledgling guide to buying hammocks by Comments and feedback welcome, as this really is a work in progress! Shortly after the shop opened, I couldn't resist the call of the vibrant colourways of the traditional Mexican blankets, also called Serapes and Saltillos, and now have a fabulous collection of traditional Mexican blankets including the pretty Falsa blanket. I intend to try out a few new styles in 2008, so keep checking in as these will be one of a kind at times!

Next on my hit list was the stunningly beautiful hand cut Papel Picado banners which to this day follow the traditions old artisan method of production using a hand held chisel to tap out the designs on the banners, 50 sheets at a time! Not only did I find a fabulous collection of Papel Picado, but I am delighted to say that they are all produced for a Fair Trade certified organisation. We now have the largest collection of Papel Picado in the UK and possibly Europe! I can now offer customized Papel Picado for personal or corporate customers, just ask for more details! Papel Picado is fast becoming the latest ‘must have’ Wedding decoration and our latest additions include New Baby banners! Please contact me if you are looking to buy multiple banners for your wedding or any occasion as I am happy to put up personalised listings on request.
As the months flew by, and the summer turned to Autumn and with it the close of hammock season, it was my aim to experiment by finding eclectic items that stayed true to my desire to offer only Mexican artisan made collections whether inspired by tradition or made with traditional artisan skills. A perfect example of this is Frida Kahlo, Mexico's first lady of art, whose image has become iconic and can be seen on wide range of popular everyday items! Many of which are now in my shop! Whether made by tradition artisan skills or just inspired by Mexico’s rich folk art and craft traditions, buying has never been so much fun!
Some of these items will arrive and may never be replaced, either due to them being one of a kind in the first place or just never being able to source them again! You will find some products made in other Latin American countries from time to time, like my wonderful hand-crafted Day of the Dead mini retablos from Peru, which were just too wonderful to resist. I now also stock fabric from Alexander Henry's wonderful Folkloric collection, featuring day of the dead imagery and more. Check out instore to see the full range of fabric available. Multiple yardage available on request via personalised listing. Just ask!

If you find something you like, don't think twice, because the next time you look, it might be gone forever!
Have fun shopping at Between The Trees.
