Plug Plants
If your order contains multiples of just plug plants then the ebay automated invoicing system will work out the discounted post and packaging price for you. £1.95 for the first pack plus £1.40 p&p per pack for any others paid for and sent in the same parcel.
(If the order is for a larger amount of plug plants then the p&p price can usually be discounted further but we have to do this manually.)
Please do bear in mind though that in order to calculate post and packaging we have had to work out an average weight for a plug plant. This is not an exact science as by their nature the varieties vary in size and they have a habit of growing whilst waiting to be sold! We then factor in the cost of packaging - the blister packs that the plug plants travel in are expensive plus we have to account for document wallets, packing slips, labels, boxes etc. As we are a VAT registered business we then have to charge VAT on top. This is why the cost of the Royal Mail postage you see on the parcel does not reflect the total cost of getting your order to you.
Bulbs and Bare Root Stock
We also have a similar quandary with bulbs and bare root stock. Again, we have to work out the average weight of each variety of bulb and base the p&p cost on this including the cost of packaging and VAT as well.
Plant Pots and Saucers
If ordering multiple lots of pots or saucers please ask us for a combined p&p price - this will always work out more economically than multiplying the cost of the p&p price of single lots. We will be happy to give a shipping quote for any items to help you decide before committing to buy.
Our assurance to you
We are proud of our good reputation of being a long established and honest company and have no wish to make a profit from post and packaging charges, however we do have to cover all our costs. We hope from the explanations above you will see that working out exact p&p charges on living, growing items is an impossibility but have devised what we believe to be the fairest system for us all. If you feel that the p&p costs you have paid are not correct then please get in touch with us and we will look into it. We are fully aware that mistakes do happen and have no desire to overcharge anyone.
General Information
To proceed with an order you can do one of two things - either pay the p&p amount shown on the automated ebay invoice and we will refund your PayPal account with any difference once we have reviewed your order to check combined p&p charges or email us and wait for an amended invoice.
We will always endeavor to send an invoice out within 24 hours although it is usually very much quicker than this.
We do send items including plug plants to any EU country. (Sadly, we are unable to send anything outside the EU though.) Please contact us first so we can give you a quote for post and packaging.
We are constantly researching packaging for safe delivery of different sizes of plant. At the moment our main stock items are plug plants which we post in plastic blister packs specially designed for the job, plant pots which we usually send out in cardboard boxes, seeds in C5 size envelopes and bulbs and bare root stock in padded envelopes or boxes.
Our aim is to get your order to you as quickly as possible. In order to do this we prefer payment by PayPal (but happily accept cheques and postal orders as an alternative) and use First Class post for most of our items. We post out every week day but avoid Saturdays (this is to save parcels from being delayed over the weekend). Certainly with plug plants, time is of the essence - the sooner the plugs are potted on, the sooner you will be reaping the benefits. Another problem with delayed payment is the plants grow at such a rate we struggle to get them into the packing for their journey!
Unfortunately our village Post Office fell victim to the latest round of closures so we now have to frank our own mail. Other than weekends and holiday periods we aim to dispatch all our orders during the next working day. We always send out an email to let you know when your order is on the way.
For larger and heavier orders we use a next day delivery courier service which generally results in a good saving for these types of parcels.
