It is NOT against the law to copy and  sell (resell right or public domain) audio books on CDs.

The audio books sent are in Mp3 format and hence you can listen to them on your PC, mp3 ,ipods etc.Your Hi-fi system must support mp3 to listen to them on   a Hi-fi sysytem  .

What is a book on a cd-rom

A book on a cd-rom comes in pdf format .It comes in digital form and can be read on your computer or laptop  They come in many formats including PDF, exe and Word.They can also be printed out if required

Do I need any special software to read a book on a cd-rom

Most books can be read using the default software of your computer. For books in PDF format( you will need Acrobat Reader). Books in Word format will require Microsoft Word. Many books come in exe format which can be read on any PC.They can also be printed out if required.
You will also need extracting software such as Winzip to unpack your purchase from the ZIP folder that it will arrive in.
